vagina
Muscular channel extending from the neck of the uterus to the vulva.

vagus nerve
Mixed cranial nerve playing a major role in the parasympathetic autonomic nervous system.

vastus lateralis muscle
Part of the quadriceps connected to the posterior lateral part of the femur; it assists the leg to extend and stabilizes the knee.

vastus medialis muscle
Part of the quadriceps connected to the posterior medial part of the femur; it assists the leg to extend and stabilizes the knee.

vermiform appendix
Outgrowth of the large intestine located at the extremity of the cecum and containing numerous lymph nodes.

vermis of cerebellum
Central part of the cerebellum, uniting the two cerebellar hemispheres.

vertebra prominens
Seventh and last cervical vertebra, having a protruding spinous process and serving as a transition between the cervical and thoracic vertebrae.

vertebral artery
Branch of the subclavian artery, irrigating the muscles of the neck, meninges, cerebral trunk, cerebellum and posterior part of the brain.

vertebral column
Bony structure consisting of 33 vertebrae, extending from the skull to the pelvis; it supports the head and trunk and contains the spinal cord.

vesicular ovarian follicle
Small structure of the ovary inside which an oocyte develops during the ovarian cycle.

vestibule of vagina
Area between the labia majora and minora, on either side of the vulva, through which the vagina and ureter open.

vestibulocochlear nerve
Sensory cranial nerve responsible for hearing and balance.

visceral surface of spleen
Surface of the spleen in contact with the adjacent viscera.

vocal folds
Long bands of muscle tissue attached to the thyroid and arytenoid cartilages; their vibration allows sounds to be produced.

vomer
Unpaired bone located in the posterior and lower part of the nasal cavity.
